BOOK REVIEW: 168 HOURS BY LAURA VANDERKAM
First off, let me state for the record that I have never written a book review before, but since starting my own business I have found so much wisdom and encouragement in a number of books, that I knew once I launched this blog about my favorite branding and marketing tips, I HAD to include a book club feature with all my fellow entrepreneurs out there!
So first up we're breaking down Laura Vanderkam's "168 Hours: You Have More Time Than You Think". This is the first self-help book I've ever bought, and I can honestly say that it was nothing like I would have thought. I think I always worried a self-help book would be mostly fluff with just a few takeaways that I probably already heard before, but this was nothing like I imagined. 168 Hours is filled with so many tangibles, and there are exercises at the end of each chapter helping you actually apply the tips and advice you just read. As soon as I finished it, I promised myself that I need to re-read this one at least once a year! It was THAT good!
My big thing in life is work/life balance. I know everyone likes to say they value that, but I think it's really rare to find people who actually have it nailed down and are living their lives with the balance they truly seek. This book made me realize that it really is possible, and that with a little introspection and prioritizing, you can tackle all the things you've wanted to without feeling like you're doing them at the cost of other projects.
If you've read this one already, or end up doing so, please leave a comment below and let me know what your biggest takeaway was! I loved doing the list of 100 dreams, and maybe I'll share mine on here one of these days! Seeing all the things I've ever wanted from life written down on one piece of paper gave me so much clarity as to what I need to prioritize in life, and now, when I need to say "no" to things that just don't fit the vision I have for my life, I don't have any guilt any about it!
